TEHRAN, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Iran wants the United Nations Security Council to stop investigating whether its nuclear ambitions are peaceful.
"The time has come to end the illegal consideration of Iran's nuclear issue at the Security Council, and send the case back to a relevant technical forum, specifically the International Atomic Energy Agency," said Mohammad Khazaei, Iran's envoy to the United Nations, RIA Novosti reported Saturday.
If the Security Council declines to close Iran's nuclear dossier, it will undermine the IAEA's credibility and further complicated the situation, Khazaei said.
Khazaei noted recent U.S. intelligence reports confirmed the IAEA's conclusion that Iran is not developing nuclear weapons and intends its atomic program to be used for energy production only, Novosti reported.
Khazaei dismissed remarks by U.S. President George Bush that Iran remains a danger to the world because it seeks atomic development.
