New video shows Bhutto taking bullet

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- A videotape released Monday shows former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto being struck by a bullet seconds before an explosion in Rawalpindi.

Bhutto was at a political rally Thursday and was videotaped standing up through the sunroof of her bomb-proofed car. Her hair and scarf can be seen moving as three shots rang out and she slumps back into the vehicle, CNN reported.

A second later, a bomb exploded and killed 23 other people.

Her death led to violence throughout the country, and the Central Election Commission announced Monday a decision on whether to proceed with parliamentary elections Jan. 8 would be made Tuesday. The commission said it had to consider national security ramifications as well as practical matters, as many of its regional offices in four provinces were badly vandalized following Bhutto's assassination.

Sunday, Bhutto's husband, Asif Ali Zardari, who took co-leadership of Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party with their 19-year-old son, Bilawal Zardari, said he didn't want to see elections delayed.

"Our demand is elections on time -- free, fair as promised," he said.
