Prodigy, 21, about to become doctor

BRUSSELS, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- The mayor of Brussels canceled the city's New Year's Eve fireworks celebration Sunday after meeting with security advisors from the Belgian Interior Ministry.
Francophone socialist Freddy Thielemans called off the traditional display on the advice of officials from the ministry's Crisis Center, which placed the country on heightened alert after Dec. 21, when police uncovered an alleged plot to free Islamic terrorist Nizar Trabelsi from his jail, Flanders Today reported.
The center decided to extend the state of alert until at least Jan. 3, the newspaper said.
Jaak Raes, the center's director-general said there is "no reason to revise the heightened state of alert."
