WASHINGTON, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- The U.S. Federal Election Commission said political action committees spent most of their funds to either support or oppose Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y.

An FEC report said that PAC's spent upward of $2.1 million in the past month supporting or opposing candidates for president and that nearly 85 percent of those funds targeted Clinton, The Washington Times said Friday.

FEC filings show the conservative RightMarch.com spent nearly $80,000 opposing Clinton while the left-leaning PAC Democratic Courage reportedly spent tens of thousands to oppose her in recent weeks.

The pro-abortion rights group Emily's List and the political unit of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees spent a combined total of nearly $1.5 million in the past month supporting Clinton, the Times said.

The campaign manager for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., David Plouffe, distributed an e-mail message Thursday to potential supporters saying Clinton's "friends from Washington" spent millions to attack Obama.
