BOLINGBROOK , Ill., Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Illinois State Police on Thursday investigated anonymous notes and photos left on the lawns of neighbors of Stacy Peterson, who has been missing since October.
Two neighbors called Bolingbrook, Ill., police after finding "non-threatening letters" in their mailboxes and scattered on lawns Wednesday claiming to have information on the case, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
The material was turned over to state police.
Bolingbrook Police Chief Ray McGury said the letters were upsetting but said they appeared to have been written by "somebody playing a pretty sick prank."
Among the items found scattered were photographs of gravestones and a map of a cemetery, police said.
Peterson, 23, has been missing since Oct. 28, and investigators have named her 53-year-old husband, a former Bolingbrook police sergeant, a suspect in the case considered a potential homicide.
