DANIA BEACH, Fla., Dec. 26 (UPI) -- A Florida family's Christmas turned into a nightmare when they discovered sewage flowing out of their toilet and sink.
Carmen Sotomayor and Ronald Stacy of Dania Beach returned to their apartment early Christmas morning after spending Christmas Eve with relatives. They discovered sewage was gurgling out of the plumbing and spreading across floors in their three-bedroom apartment, The Miami Herald reported.
Sotomayor said she tried calling the building manager and got no response. She then tried calling the local police and fire departments, where she found sympathy but discovered the problem was out of their jurisdiction.
She sent her children to her mother's, and the couple spent the rest of the night and Christmas morning with buckets, mops and towels. By 1 p.m., the property manager appeared and brought in appropriate assistance, the newspaper said.
The manager apologized for the delayed response, saying she did not realize how serious the problem was.
