SAN ANTONIO, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- A 7-year-old San Antonio girl who recently received a new bicycle was killed this week while riding her new gift near her home.
The San Antonio (Texas) Express-News said Wednesday that the family of Jacueline Solis was in shock after the young girl was struck and killed while riding her new bicycle on Christmas day.
Police said that the girl apparently rode out in front of a motorist who had been stopped at a local intersection. The driver had apparently begun accelerating out of his stop when Solis rode in front of him.
Initial investigations found that the driver was not speeding at the time of Tuesday's accident, leading authorities not to file any criminal charges against him.
Solis' uncle, Raul Guerra, told the newspaper that the family was attempting to deal with the sudden loss of one of their own, and said future Christmases would be hard.
"They'll be so difficult for us," he said of the future holidays. "I don't know how we'll do it."
