CHICAGO, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Weekend storms were still playing havoc Tuesday with United Airlines flights out of Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.
As of midday Tuesday, United had canceled 244 flights, or 17 percent of its schedule, the Chicago Tribune reported. That's on top of the 148 flights canceled Monday.
High winds gusting to 60 mph Sunday forced United to fly well into the night, leaving planes and crews out of position for the start of business Monday. United spokeswoman Robin Urbanski said the nation's No. 2 carrier decided to take advantage of the light travel on Christmas Day to make sure planes were in place for Wednesday.
"We did proactively cancel flights today in order to best accommodate customers and get them to their destinations," Urbanski told the Tribune.
Around the country, few air travel problems were reported.
