BOSTON, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Powers Fasteners has reached a $6 million settlement in a civil suit brought by the family of a woman killed a collapse at Boston's Big Dig.
Lawyers for the husband of Milena Del Valle, who was killed by a falling slab of concrete from the ceiling of the Big Dig's Interstate 90 connector tunnel in July 2006, said they reached a deal with the company after months of negotiations, the Boston Herald reported Tuesday.
"Angel Del Valle is gratified that the Powers Fasteners company has stepped forward and done the right thing," said Jeffrey Denner, an attorney for Del Valle's husband, Angel.
Denner said the woman's family is still negotiating with 15 other multinational organizations affiliated with the Big Dig.
"We're hopeful that they will settle, but we're prepared to go to trial," he said.
Del Valle's daughter, Raquel Ibarra Morra, released a joint statement with Angel Del Valle welcoming the settlement, the Boston Globe reported.
"We are grateful that the Powers family company has done the right thing," the statement said.
