VATICAN CITY, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Pope Benedict XVI called on the world's Catholics during midnight Christmas mass at the Vatican to allow God, the needy and the suffering into their lives.
The pontiff's remarks during the mass, which was broadcast live in 42 countries, touched on the theme of celebrating the religious significance of Christmas rather than the materialistic aspects of the holiday, Euronews.net reported Tuesday.
"Do we have time for our neighbor who is in need of a word from us, from me, or in need of my affection? For the sufferer in need of help? For the fugitive or refugee seeking asylum?" he asked.
The pope's Christmas Day schedule included his traditional "Urbi et Orbi" blessing at lunchtime and Christmas greetings in 60 languages.
