GLASGOW, Scotland, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Money from mortgage fraud and the sale of counterfeit DVDs in Scotland is funding a violent separatist group in Kashmir, Scotland on Sunday reports.
The newspaper said that sources in MI5, a British intelligence agency, say that a group based in Glasgow is sending about 50,000 pounds ($100,00) a month to Jaish-e-Mohammed. The money is allegedly laundered in Dubai before being sent to Pakistan.
The Pakistani secret service, the ISI, reportedly alerted MI5 that money was being transferred to the bank accounts of terrorist suspects.
Jaish-e-Moammed is believed to have been involved in the kidnapping of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was beheaded in Karachi in 2002.
MI5 said that about 50 people, mostly the British-born children of immigrants, are believed to be involved in the Glasgow organization. They allegedly raise about $70,000 a month through mortgage fraud and the balance by selling counterfeit DVDs and other items at flea markets and in pubs.
