Lawsuit over tanning salon peepholes

CHICAGO, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- A Chicago-area tanning salon is being sued by two young women who discovered while tanning naked that there were peepholes in the walls.

The incident happened in April 2006 although the suit claiming alleging invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress was filed this week in Cook County, Ill., Circuit Court, the Chicago Tribune reported Thursday.

The unidentified women are suing L.A. Tan Enterprises Inc. and the owner of the franchise, represented by lawyer Steven Dicker, who said the women in their 20s had been traumatized.

"My clients had a complete and total expectation of privacy, which was violated," he said. "They were crying, extremely upset."

The day of the incident, police found peepholes about 2 feet off the floor in six tanning rooms, Orland Park Police Cmdr. Chuck Doll said.

Jean O'Connor, an L.A. Tan spokeswoman, told the newspaper the company believes either a customer or someone trying to damage the salon's reputation drilled the holes and that only women worked at that franchise in April 2006.
