Attorneys for bar and bingo hall owners sought the delay -- until April 16 -- so they would have more time to respond to a motion from the Jefferson County attorney's office, the Louisville (Ky.) Courier-Journal reported Thursday.

The Louisville Metro Council's ban on smoking inside all public buildings includes bars, restaurants, bowling alleys and bingo halls. The city ordinance took effect in July, the newspaper reported.

The trial is expected to take two days.
