NEW DELHI, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Thursday the country faces intensified terrorist violence especially against soft targets.

Addressing a conference of the country's state chief ministers in New Delhi, Singh said the warning has come from intelligence agencies, the Press Trust of India reported.

The conference is designed to improve security in states, where there have been a number of terror attacks in recent months, many blamed on left-wing extremism.

The prime minister asked the chief ministers to set up specialized, dedicated forces to "cripple" such acts, the report said.

"While left-wing extremism may be restricted in its scope to some regions, the larger problem of terrorism affects all states equally," Singh said. "Terror attacks may have happened so far only in some locations. But the reach of terrorists is such that no one can say that they are fully immune from such attacks."

He warned terrorists are able to network across states and even international boundaries to organize coordinated strikes, PTI said.
