BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., Dec. 20 (UPI) -- A fox suspected of carrying rabies bit at least six people in a coastal town in Florida before it was captured.
Five adults and a 5-year-old girl in Boynton Beach were attacked Tuesday evening and Wednesday, the Palm Beach Post reported. The first bite was reported at about 8 p.m. Tuesday.
A day-care center in Boynton Beach was locked down Wednesday.
Larue Kahler, a snowbird from Nazareth, Pa., was bitten as she and her husband, Ros, took an evening stroll.
"We saw these eyes near the road, but we'd seen raccoons and foxes in the area before," Ros Kahler said. "When we walked past him, he charged, I kicked him and he went for her feet. She fell on him. Then he bit her on the finger."
The little girl was bitten just before 10 a.m. Wednesday in the playground at Miss Little's School.
The fox was captured at 3 p.m. Wednesday. It will be tested to determine if it was rabid.
