Fla. goes to court over Seminole casinos

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Florida sued the U.S. Department of the Interior to delay an agreement that permits the Seminole tribe to expand its gambling operations.

The Florida Supreme Court has not yet ruled on the compact, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported. State Attorney General Bill McCollum asked a court for an injunction barring the Interior Department from making a final decision until the state court makes its finding.

"The issue at stake here is not how the Florida Supreme Court should rule on the matter before it, but rather the right our state has to resolve this matter before an action is forced by the federal government," McCollum said in the statement.

The Seminoles operate five casinos in Florida.
