LAHORE, Pakistan, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Ten students and four laborers on a three-wheel rickshaw died after the vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer in Pakistan, Dawn reported Thursday.

The accident occurred near Pattoki, 60 miles from Lahore. Seven of the victims were members of one family, the report said.

Police were quoted as saying the axle of the rickshaw broke as it traveled, causing the driver to lose control and collide with the truck loaded with bags of fertilizer.

Police said the truck driver swerved sharply to avoid the rickshaw, but hit the sidewalk and overturned on the vehicle.

The report said 12 of the victims died at the scene and two more died at a hospital.
