BUDAPEST, Hungary, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Hungarian prosecutors asked a Budapest court to disband a paramilitary group of extreme nationalists, known for their racial intolerance.
The prosecution filed a motion Monday to ban the neo-Nazi Hungarian Guard, whose statements and activities were described as anti-gypsy and anti-Semitic, the Serbian news agency FoNet reported Tuesday.
Prosecution spokesman Atilla Morvai said the freedom to gather cannot be used to violate people's other basic rights.
On Dec. 9, about 300 members of the Hungarian Guard, clad in uniforms resembling Hungarian Nazi units from World War II, marched in a show of hate through a gypsy village outside Budapest.
The guard was formed in August by 56 supporters of the ultra-nationalist Movement for a Better Hungary and now has more than 700 members, FoNet said.
The overthrow of the leftist Hungarian government and the protection of ethnic Hungarians in neighboring Slovakia, Serbia and Romania are the group's main goal.
