GAZA, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Twelve Palestinian militants were reported killed by Israeli forces in southern Gaza, provoking promises of revenge by Palestinian guerrilla leaders.

Sources on both sides confirmed among the dead was Majed al-Harazin, a Jihad al-Quds Brigades senior commander and its top rocket strategist, and Carim Dahdouh, another senior militia leader, Ynetnews reported Tuesday. Meanwhile, Israeli officials hadn't confirmed a report by Palestinian sources that Tariq Abu-Rally, al-Quds Brigades' Jenin commander, also was killed in fighting Monday night.

"The Islamic Jihad and Palestinians' resistance organizations will respond to this grave Israeli crime over the course of the following days," al-Quds spokesman Abu Ahmed told Ynetnews.

"There is no need to make threats because the resistance and attacks are our means. The resistance is a strategy and not responses -- that is why the attacks will continue but at the same time because of this attack, they will intensify."

The Israeli military said any further rocket attacks on the western Negev communities would meet with a military response, the report said.
