Elizabeth Edwards: Dems should fear GOP

DUBUQUE, Iowa, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Elizabeth Edwards, introducing her husband John Edwards at an Iowa event Saturday, said Democrats should be scared of the Republican Party.

"Republicans should scare us in a lot of ways," Elizabeth Edwards said at a town hall in Dubuque, ABC News reported.

John Edwards, a former U.S. senator from North Carolina, is running third in most polls of Democratic voters behind New York Sen. Hillary Clinton and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama. But Edwards is closer to the front-runners in Iowa, where caucuses are to be held in less than a month.

Elizabeth Edwards said former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee seems "nice and charming." But she said he has some "nutty views," including that the way to end inner-city violence is to arm young people.

She also suggested Democrats should expect dirty tricks.

"Karl Rove may not be working in the White House anymore but you can pretty much be sure he's going back in the presidential race," she said.

John Edwards was also joined Saturday by a Hollywood supporter, actor Kevin Bacon, who entertained Democrats with an unadvertised performance by his band, the Bacon Brothers Band.
