JOLIET, Ill., Dec. 14 (UPI) -- The son of a former Illinois police officer was called before a special grand jury investigating the disappearance of the officer's wife.

Stacy Peterson, 23, of Bolingbrook, Ill., has been missing for nearly seven weeks and Illinois State Police have named her husband, Drew, a suspect in the case, The Joliet Herald-News reported Friday.

Drew Peterson, 53, said he was a little irritated that his son, Steve, has been caught up in the case. Steve Peterson, 28, is an officer with the suburban Oak Brook Police Department. He arrived in uniform Thursday morning for his grand jury testimony, The Chicago Tribune reported.

"Steve's cooperating," Drew Peterson told The Herald-News. "He's doing everything that's being asked of him."

Until retiring last month, the elder Peterson was an officer in the Bolingbrook Police Department.

His wife's disappearance has been labeled a "potential homicide" and prompted an inquiry into the death of Peterson's previous wife, Kathleen Savio, who drowned in a bathtub.
