Five men plea guilty in Posada case

MIAMI, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Five men linked to former Cuban militant Luis Posada Carriles pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice charges, The Miami Herald reported Thursday.

During their court appearances in Texas, the five men -- Ernesto Abreu, Osvaldo Mitat, Santiago Alvarez, Ruben Lopez-Castro and Jose Pujol -- refused to testify on Posada's illegal entry into the United States in 2005.

The men, all of whom hail from Miami, face up to 10 years in prison.

Posada, who is free on bond, is scheduled to stand trial for crossing the U.S. border into Texas illegally in 2005.

The 80-year-old former CIA-trained explosives expert is also wanted in Cuba and Venezuela for allegedly orchestrating the 1976 bombing of a Cuban airliner in Venezuela that killed 73 people.
