STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- A Swedish Parliament member was assaulted in an apparent anti-gay attack at a hot dog stand in Stockholm.
Six or seven young men approached the Centre Party's Fredrick Federley, who represents Stockholm Municipality constituency in the Riksdag, and two friends, shouting "here come the fags," The Local reported. "Then they screamed that we were disgusting and a threat to Sweden and that they were going to beat us up," Federley told The Local.
One of the assailants punched him on the left jaw. Federley told them he "wasn't going to fight, as that would make me no better than them." He was hit three more times.
"I'm more shaken now than I was then. It could have ended really badly," he told The Local.
Federley was back in Parliament Monday and said he intended to report the Saturday night attack to police.
