Shares for Holocaust heirs total $51.3M

JERUSALEM, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- An Israeli organization says heirs of 55,000 Holocaust victims can now claim their shares of $51.3 million stolen by the Nazis.

"This is a remarkable project," said Yishai Amrami, head the Organization for the Restitution of Assets of Holocaust Victims

"We are dealing with an exceptionally large number of stockholders. We are seeking to give their relatives what they deserve," Amrami told Army Radio in Israel Monday.

Heirs can check if their relatives are on the list by by going to the organization's Web site at www.hashava.org.il.

Amrami said any unclaimed money at the end of 12 months will be distributed among needy survivors.

People eligible for shares are heirs of stockholders of the Jewish Colonial Trust.
