OSLO, Norway, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Al Gore and the head of the U.N. climate-change panel Monday accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in Norway.

Both stressed the need for world leaders to act fast on global warming.

The former vice president was in the Norwegian capital to accept the prize along with Rajendra Pachauri, head of the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Aftenposten said the pair received several standing ovations from the crowd as they linked climate change to the potential for major global upheaval as nations deal with more natural calamities and fighting over dwindling or shifting resources.

Pachauri told the crowd he was honored by the award; however would feel "doubly honored" if climate-change warnings are heeded.
