Alleged gun-toting granny out of jail

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 10 (UPI) -- The 63-year old woman who was arrested for allegedly trying to enter Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Fla., with a loaded gun is now out of jail.

Orange County Jail records show that Mary Ann Richardson, of Nickelson, Pa., was brought in Sunday and released Monday after posting a $2,000 bail on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon inside the theme park, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Richardson was at the theme park with her grandchildren and also allegedly had a knife and scissors in her purse, the report said.

The arrest has been praised as proof that higher security measures are working out.

"(Sunday's) arrest clearly demonstrates that the security measures are up and running and that they work," Orange County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Corporal Susan Soto said in a press release.

Disney officials said the loaded silver Beretta .32-caliber semiautomatic handgun was found during a routine safety check. Richardson told investigators that she had forgotten she was carrying the gun, the report said.
