MANAMA, Bahrain, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- India's national security adviser says al-Qaida terrorists plan to attack high-profile politicians and energy facilities in the Persian Gulf region.

Speaking at a security meeting in Bahrain, M.K. Narayanan warned of recruits from 14 countries training at new al-Qaida camps along the Afghan-Pakistan border, the BBC reported Sunday.

The recruits are being trained to target politicians and energy infrastructure, such as oil pipelines, storage depots, electricity pylons and oil tankers, Narayanan said.

Indian intelligence reports show the recruits are well funded, well armed and being taught "asymmetric war techniques," which is the practice of attacking an enemy's weak spots, Narayanan said.
