CONCORD, N.H., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Sen. Barack Obama, R-Ill., is gaining on his democratic counterpart, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., in polls in New Hampshire and other states.

An ABC News/Washington Post poll of 592 likely voters in New Hampshire showed Clinton holding a six-point lead over Obama, with more than 40 percent saying they felt Clinton pandered to the electorate, The Washington Times said Sunday.

A Zogby poll showed Clinton's lead in New Hampshire down from its November high of nearly 40 percent to an 11-point lead over Obama.

"What you are seeing is a combination of some of Hillary's soft support shifting and a larger proportion of undecideds going for Obama rather than Clinton," said one campaign media strategist.

A Newsweek poll Friday showed Obama and Clinton in a statistical dead heat among likely caucus-goers in Iowa.

The same holds for a Rasmussen poll of 407 like voters in South Carolina, where Clinton led Obama by 10 points in November.

"Among likely voters who see the war in Iraq as the top issue in this election, Hillary Clinton runs neck and neck with Barack Obama," a Marist College Institute for Public Opinion poll found.

The polls were conducted in late November and early December.
