McCanns appeal for potential witnesses

BIRMINGHAM, England, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- The parents of Madeleine McCann, the 4-year-old girl who disappeared in Portugal, have appealed to anyone staying in Praia da Luz at the time to come forward.

Kate and Gerry McCann say they left their daughter sleeping with her brother and sister May 3 while they ate dinner with friends in a nearby restaurant.

Some other guests staying in the resort on the Algarve were not interviewed by police immediately and have still not been questioned, The Daily Telegraph reported.

"We would appeal to any UK residents who have still not been spoken to by British police and who were in Praia da Luz on May 3 to please come forward and to contact their local police or the confidential phone line based in Spain," said Clarence Mitchell, a spokesman for the couple.

Portuguese police have named three people as "arguidos" or suspects in the case. They are the McCanns and another British national who lived near the McCanns' holiday apartment.
