JERUSALEM, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Thousands of protesters converged on Jerusalem Thursday voicing solidarity for the maintenance of a united Jerusalem.
Members of the One Jerusalem organization coordinated the event to voice opposition to dividing Israel's capital into Jewish and Arab sections, Haaretz reported Friday.
The head of the Likud party, Binyamin Netanyahu, spoke to the crowd saying, "The people of Israel did not sacrifice their soldiers so that the government would later give away Jerusalem."
One Jerusalem was founded nearly a decade ago during the second Camp David talks that proposed a division of Jerusalem. The movement has seen an increase in interest in the aftermath of the Annapolis peace conference.
