FARMINGTON, Conn., Dec. 6 (UPI) -- A University of Connecticut construction committee official has accused the university of breaking the law by failing to report unfavorable audit findings.

Charles Urso has called for an independent audit to look into the university's practice of shifting construction money between accounts without approval, the Hartford Courant said Wednesday.

Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell has asked the university to address Urso's questions.

University President Michael Hogan said there has been "some misunderstanding of the process," the newspaper said.

Urso's committee investigated the school's UConn 2000 program after fire and building code violations prompted several investigations. The repair work is costing the university millions of dollars, the newspaper said.

Board of Trustees Chairman John W. Rowe opposes another audit, saying it would just be rehashing old mistakes,
