PARIS, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- The French Interior Ministry said one person was killed and another seriously injured when a letter bomb detonated in Paris.

The blast, which occurred in a law office building, is believed to have killed a female secretary, CNN reported Thursday.

Police said a second explosive was discovered and disposed of shortly after they arrived at the scene.

French Interior Minister Michele Alliot-Marie "condemns with the greatest severity this cowardly and hateful act," she said in a statement. The official has prematurely ended a trip to Brussels to allow her to visit the scene of the explosion.

The building hit by the blast hosts the former law firm of French President Nicolas Sarkozy as well as an office for a foundation dedicated to Holocaust memorial.
