Teacher breaks sex conviction terms

TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 5 (UPI) -- A female Florida ex-teacher convicted of having sex with a 14-year-old boy is charged with violating her probation terms by talking with a teenage girl.

Middle school teacher Debra Lafave, 27, was charged Tuesday near Tampa by Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies after a 17-year-old she works with at a restaurant said they had had personal discussions, CNN reported.

Lafave pleaded guilty in November 2005 to having sex with a 14-year-old boy and part of her three years house arrest and seven years of probation included a stipulation she avoid contact with anyone under 18, prosecutors said.

Her lawyer, John Fitzgibbons, told CNN there was no criminal wrongdoing.

"I would characterize this simply as 'girl talk,' or 'guy talk,' if you will, among fellow employees, that all of us do every day," Fitzgibbons said. "This is it. There's no more, there's no less. I would describe it as simply a workplace friendship."

Corrections officials ordered Lafave to leave the restaurant job and she reportedly now is working as a receptionist in her mother's barber shop, the report said.
