Student leader resigns over Web posting

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Dec. 5 (UPI) -- University of Michigan student body President Zack Yost has resigned following the posting of disparaging remarks about a disabled colleague online.

Yost, 21, made the announcement in Ann Arbor Tuesday night, along with an apology to Michigan Student Assembly representative Tim Hull, whom he criticized a week ago in a private Facebook.com group, the Detroit News reported.

"I've made a horrible mistake and done harm to a lot of people and most importantly to Tim," Yost said.

Hull has Asperger's syndrome, a mild form of autism, and apparently angered Yost with frequent requests for changes to legislative wording, which he wrote about on the Internet, the Michigan Daily reported.

"I'll give that kid a (expletive) disability he can write home about if he keeps sending these code amendments to everyone," the posting said.

After the announcement, Hull, 22, said he hoped lessons had been learned.

"I feel it brings closure to the situation," Hull said. "I hope that MSA will learn from this and improve its relations with people with disabilities."
