Mexico passes law on terminally ill

MEXICO CITY, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Mexico has passed a law that allows terminally ill patients in the country´s capital to refuse treatment, El Universal newspaper reported Wednesday.

Lawmakers in Mexico City unanimously approved the bill, which has been the center of a political, ethical and religious debate debate in the largely Catholic country.

Surprisingly, the Catholic Church in Mexico did not object to the passing of the legislation, though it expressed concerns it could lead toward the legalization of euthanasia in the country.
