LAS VEGAS, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- David "Chip" Reese, whose poker skills earned him a place in the Poker Hall of Fame, has died from undetermined causes in Las Vegas at the age of 56.
Fellow poker champion Barry Greenstein said that while no official cause of death has been determined yet for Reese, the hall-of-famer had always struggled with his weight in the unhealthy world of his chosen profession, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Wednesday.
"As poker players, we do things we know that shorten the life span," Greenstein said. "We played poker in smoky rooms, staying up for a day or two at a time. We also don't eat well. In our community, we don't look for answers. Chip was very likely one of the most respected players around."
When Reese was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 1991, he was the youngest player ever to have received the honor.
The Review-Journal said that Reese, who died on Tuesday, is survived by his son, Casey; his daughter, Taylor, and his stepdaughter, Brittney Shea.
