BOLINGBROOK , Ill., Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Divers from the Illinois State Police and other agencies were searching canal waters Wednesday for evidence in the disappearance of Stacy Peterson.
Dive teams braved cold, snowy conditions to search the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal in Romeoville and Rockport for anything that may be a clue in the disappearance of Peterson, the wife of former Bolingbrook, Ill., police Sgt. Drew Peterson, officials told the Chicago Tribune.
"It could possibly be cars, junk -- you name it," state trooper Mark Dorencz said.
Peterson, 23, has been missing since Oct. 28. Investigators tapped Drew Peterson as a suspect in the case, which has been labeled a "possible homicide" investigation, the Tribune said. Authorities also are re-examining the 2004 death of Drew Peterson's third wife, Kathleen Savio.
State police Tuesday served Drew Peterson with a search warrant focusing on items in the family's SUV and car.
Drew Peterson has not been charged with any crime. He has denied any involvement in his wife's disappearance and in the death of his ex-wife.
