Bush: Iran must 'come clean' on intentions

OMAHA, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Iran still has to explain its nuclear intentions and past actions regarding nuclear development, U.S. President George Bush said Wednesday.

Speaking before meeting with healthcare professionals in Omaha, Bush said he was updated on reaction from European ministers on the National Intelligence Estimate that Iran tabled development of nuclear weapons capabilities in 2003. Bush said the report reinforces his position that Iran poses a nuclear threat.

"The Iranians have a strategic choice to make," Bush told reporters. "They can come clean with the international community" about the breadth of their nuclear activities, suspend their enrichment program and negotiate, "or they can continue on a path of isolation that is not in the best interest of the Iranian people."

Bush said ministers in Britain, Germany, France and Russia indicated their countries "understand that the Iranian nuclear issue is a problem, and continues to be a problem that must be addressed by the international community."
