BOSTON, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Parts of New England and New York State struggled for the third day Tuesday with an early winter storm.
In Rochester, N.Y., an overnight snowfall left roads slippery, The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reported. The National Weather Service predicted at least 10 more inches of snow in the Buffalo area, notorious for its lake-effect storms.
The storm moved in from the Midwest late Sunday. Highway deaths across the region were blamed on ice, sleet and poor visibility.
In Connecticut, Zachariah Williams, a National Guard member from Hartford, and Michael Zebrowski, a Marine reservist from Thomaston, were struck and killed as they stood on the shoulder of Interstate 84 Sunday night, The Hartford Courant said. Williams, who was talking to a friend on a cell phone, apparently pulled over to help Zebrowski, who had skidded into a guard rail.
Schools were closed across the region on Monday because of dangerous road conditions. In New York, at least two people were injured by wind-blown debris, The New York Times reported.
