TAUNTON, Mass., Dec. 4 (UPI) -- At least five construction workers were injured Tuesday when a building roof collapsed at a Taunton, Mass., construction site.
Two of the workers were reported to be seriously injured by the Tuesday morning incident at an industrial park, WCVB-TV, Boston, reported Tuesday.
"People were on the roof and basically what happened was the roof collapsed. They slid down the length of the panels. There were no real free falls. It was a slide down the panel as the panel came down," worker Charlie Kuhn said.
Kuhn said the injured workers were conscious when they were taken away.
"I'm hopefully optimistic that they're all OK. They were conscious and aware of what was going on. Everybody seemed to be in good shape, other than being really banged up," Kahn said.
The cause of the collapse is under investigation.
Gil Enos, a representative of the Taunton mayor's office, said rescue workers were still at the site Tuesday afternoon.
"They are checking to see whether there is anyone under the rubble," Enos said.
