TRENTON, N.J., Dec. 3 (UPI) -- The Trenton, N.J., Civil Courthouse was evacuated Monday after a water leak tripped the fire alarm, also trapping passengers in two elevators.

The Mercer County Sheriff's office said an investigation by firefighters found a heat detector activated the alarm system after water had apparently dripped from the ceiling onto the device, The Trenton Times reported Monday.

Firefighters were able to rescue the people from the elevators, which are not supposed to shut down until they reach the lobby

The evacuation also caused the shut down of three blocks in downtown Trenton, while an alarm company fixed the malfunctioning system.
