ANKARA, Turkey, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Turkey's military says it inflicted "significant losses" in an attack against Kurdish rebels inside Iraq.
On its Web site, the Turkish military reported crossing the border to attack as many as 60 rebels belonging to the Kurdistan Workers Party, the PKK, The Washington Post reported Sunday.
"The terrorist group suffered significant losses as a result of the operation," said a statement on the Web site. "If necessary, there will be other operations in the region using other means."
There was no information on how many were killed in Saturday's incursion.
U.S. military officials said they were not aware of the cross-border attack, the Post reported.
Turkey has moved an estimated 100,000 soldiers to the border to rout the mountain hideouts of PKK rebels fighting for greater autonomy in Turkey.
