"Playing the piano is my one abiding passion," said Hopkins, who owns a Bosendorfer piano -- which are valued at up to $200,000 and have been owned by the late Frank Sinatra, among others, The Sunday Times of London reported.
Hopkins, who won an Oscar for his role as Hannibal Lecter in "The Silence of the Lambs," primarily will play his own music, which is haunting and ethereal in the style of modern film music, the Times reported.
Hopkins, 69, as a youth won a scholarship to the Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. He wrote most of the score for the film "Slipstream," which premiered at the Sundance Festival this year and was released in the United States in October.
"He is a great pianist," said Malcolm Luker, an Australian musician who worked on "Slipstream" and is organizing Hopkins' tour to start in Australia.
