BAGHDAD, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- The arrest of two members of a prominent Sunni family is escalating tension within the Iraqi leadership, The Washington Post reported Saturday.
Adnan al-Dulaimi, who leads the Iraqi Accordance Front, said the Shiite-led government placed him under house arrest Friday and arrested his son, Maki, 38, and 40 of the family's employees, the Post reported.
U.S. military officials said one of the employees was found with keys to a car bomb and two others were suspected in the death of a member of a neighborhood watch group, the Post reported.
Five U.S. soldiers suffered minor injuries when they defused the car bomb, the Post reported.
Dulaimi, in a telephone interview with the Post, claimed he, his son, and the workers were innocent victims of a politically motivated raid.
"This will have very negative impact on attempts to reach national reconciliation," Dulaimi said.
