CINCINNATI, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- A man convicted in Ohio of killing his girlfriend's daughter was declared a sexual predator Thursday although he was never found guilty of sexual assault.
A judge in Hamilton County found that James Doan is a pedophile, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
Doan was convicted in 1994 of murder and child endangerment. Prosecutors asked Judge Norbert Nadel, who sentenced him to 20 years to life, to classify him as a predator after he applied for parole this year.
Nadel said prosecutors had shown that Doan's attack on Starr Hollingsworth was to fulfill his "sexual needs or desires."
The 15-month-old girl had bruising around her vagina and anus. She was also scalded with hot water and was shaken, and her skull and vertebrae had fractures.
Nadel's ruling is believed to be the first ever in Ohio in which someone not convicted of a sex crime was found to be a sexual predator.
