Fire halts Norway's trains

OSLO, Norway, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- An electrical fire Wednesday left as many as 80,000 rail commuters stranded across southeast Norway.

Trains came to a halt shortly after a construction worker near Oslo Central Station damaged a high-voltage cable Tuesday, Aftenposten reported Wednesday.

"We are aware that one of our contractors damaged a high-voltage cable yesterday. It was an accident," said Norwegian Public Roads Administration project leader Harald Rapp Nilsen.

About an hour after the cable was damaged, a fire broke out at nearby Oslo Central Station, reportedly due to a short circuit.

After the first cable was hit, two others short-circuited before the fire erupted at the train station.
