Stolen medals returned

OSLO, Norway, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- The 19 world championship and Olympic medals stolen from Norwegian skiing legend Kjetil Andre Aamodt have been recovered.

The medals were delivered to Aamodt, 36, through an anonymous middleman, the Norwegian broadcasting network NRK reported.

In all, Aamodt has eight Olympic medals: four gold, two silver and two bronze; and 12 world championship metals: five golds, four silvers and three bronzes.

The athlete's father, Finn Aamodt, said his son planned to donate the medals to the Ski Museum, Aftenposten reported.

"There, everyone can enjoy seeing them. We also hope they will be safer there than they were in my safe," Finn Aamodt said.

The medals were stolen from his safe in 2003. Since their return, the family has made copies of the medals. As for how they got them back, Aamodt is mum.

"There were unusual circumstances and they don't want to make a fuss

about it," he told Dagbladet.
