Iran develops submarine and missile

TEHRAN, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Iran said it is strengthening its defense system with a new long-range missile and a domestically produced submarine.

The Ashoura missile, designed and developed in Iran, can hit targets up to 1,240 miles away, Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar told a group of Islamic militiamen, Iran's Press TV reported Tuesday.

Iran has become self-sufficient in meeting its need for weapons and munitions but would only use them if attacked, Najjar said.

The new submarine is expected to be delivered to the Iranian navy Wednesday, Najjar said.

The submarine and Ashoura missile supplements Iran's existing long-range missile, the Shabab-3, reported IsraelNN.com.
