KABUL, Afghanistan, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- A roadside bomb exploded near an Afghan military vehicle, killing four soldiers in Afghanistan's eastern Paktia Province, it was reported Tuesday.

Deen Mohammad Darwish, a provincial government spokesman, blamed the Monday attack on Taliban rebels, the report by the Chinese news agency Xinhua said.

"The Taliban rebels detonated a roadside bomb by remote control in Zarmat district today at noon, destroying a military vehicle and killing four soldiers on the spot," Darwish told Xinhua.

He said two more soldiers were injured in the attack.

The region is close to the border with Pakistan and has been the scene of intense air strikes recently by international military forces against the Taliban rebels.
