BLOOMINGTON, Ill., Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Authorities in Illinois are holding a Bloomington man suspected of invading the home of a rural resident and trying to pour bleach down his throat ,
David Koeppen, 22, is accused of home invasion, robbery, residential burglary, aggravated battery and unlawful restraint in connection with the incident, The Bloomington Pantagraph reports.
Koeppen was apprehended in a field Saturday after the victim informed a teller at Chase Bank that he was being forced to withdraw $10,000 and give it to Koeppen.
A statement submitted by prosecutors said the victim was in his home Saturday when Koeppen entered his bedroom and tried to pour bleach down his throat.
After tying the victim up, the statement said, Koeppen rummaged through the house searching for credit cards that could be used for cash advances.
Koeppen is accused of hitting the victim with a hatchet after the man managed to get loose from his restraints and run to the garage.
He then allegedly took the man to Chase bank to withdraw money, .
